Struggling Writer
Writing is difficult.
It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there, to find characters you like, to think of a plot that doesn't suck.
Really, what I most likely need is practice. I've spent the last two days buried in research. And by research I mean laying in my front lawn, soaking up the sun, and re-reading three books.
I read half of Beautiful Disaster
but I quit that book because I was on my third re-read and if I really wanted some research I should check out others.
I re-read Thoughtless
but as I was reading, it hit really close to home. I was between two men at one point in my life. Engaged to one and then in love with a co-worker. I couldn't bare how long Keira spent debating between the two men. It broke my heart because I was in that situation, but I never took it as far as she did. Maybe that's because I was 27 when it was going on. I'm sure if I was just 19/20 it would have ended differently. It's interesting to think that maybe as an author it isn't in my best interest to write from the perspective of a 20 year old.
I re-read The Deal
and someone PLEASE recommend me a book like that one. I guess I should check out the next ones in the series. These characters are just as young as the ones in Thoughtless, but I feel like they're a lot more mature. I still love the idea of a "fake" relationship romance and I think I'll try to dive into that story line soon. (I mean in like 10 minutes)
My Work:
I've made very little progress in the past two days. Okay. I've made NO progress. But I can't help it that all of my friends are having their 30th birthday parties this week.
Carah's high school boyfriend is about to get his own story. I love the age of new adult romance, but I don't like that if they didn't go to college, then they've got to be living at home. I think a grandparent to going to leave a house to Colin, so that will take away from the youngness of them. Maybe I should be reconsidering the age of my characters, but my favorite age to read about is college.
I had a pretty great experience in college myself, so I love the idea of getting to revisit those times over and over again.
What's a point in your life that you'd love to re-vist?
